His Story
Jamie's journey began in traditional landscaping but soon shifted after he felt a push towards natural and sustainable landscaping. After pursuing an art degree and a successful fashion photography career, Jamie returned to the land, establishing a permaculture farm in Georgia called Wolfscratch.
Recognizing the challenges small-scale farmers face, Jamie was inspired by Toby Hemenway’s “The Permaculture City” to bring permaculture food systems to urban and suburban centers. This led to the creation of Roots Down, focusing on making urban areas ecologically sound and financially sustainable. As the Founder and CEO of Roots Down, Jamie enhances urban spaces with eco-scapes, gardens, and green spaces.
In 2018, Jamie sold the farm and moved back to Atlanta, realizing that the city's substantial landscaping budgets could be leveraged to fight climate change, create green jobs, and feed communities. This innovative approach drives Jamie’s work with the Fruitful Community Foundation, educating the next generation of eco-advocates, fostering youth advocacy, and forging a path towards a harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
