Leadership means having a vision, inspiring others, and motivating a group to work towards a common goal. Leadership is having a thorough understanding of not only your strengths and weaknesses, but also those of the people in your team. Leaders are able to take this knowledge and leverage it in order to overcome challenges and reach their desired goals.
Being intrinsically motivated is a major component of being an effective leader. A leader that is intrinsically motivated has done the work internally and found a passion and purpose that extends beyond any tangible reward. Jamie is a great example of an intrinsically motivated leader. Since Jamie has shared his passion about shifting the practices of the landscaping industry, I've found even more interest in the topic. In a sense I've been enlightened, and now I'm willing to do the necessary work to change the way we think of landscaping.
Being able to build intrinsic motivation in your team is extremely important. When your team has found a passion for solving whatever issue is at hand, everyone's goals are aligned. When goals are aligned, the team is able to be more productive.
